Summer began with the excitement of our trip to California. The drive out went pretty smooth. We stopped out in the Salt Flats for a brief picture. A nice girl ran out and offered to take our family picture for us. We stopped in Winnemucca at a park for a picnic lunch. On Sunday after church we drove up to Arnold in the mountains and met Stephanie, Julie and Heather and the CA cousins at White Pines lake. We hiked around the lake, got eaten by mosquitos and crossed over a creek on a log. We then went to Murphy's to a huge cabin. It was surrounded by woods and had a great view, a pool, games, a movie room and 2 chickens. The next day we celebrated Obie's birthday by going to Mercer Cavern where the kids got to pan for gems and fossils like old-time miners. The kids also all got to pick out a real geode and get them cracked open. Then we bought some delicious apple cider donuts near town. We had a pool party and cake to celebrate later. On the way back to Turlock we stopped in Columbia, the old mining town, and got our picture taken. Our kids also got to make candles with Stephanie's kids there.Back in Turlock we went swimming at a city pool one day. The girls worked tirelessly on their finger knitting blankets and both completed one. The kids had fun playing in the pool and splash pad at Mimi's. On our last day they got to see the new How To Train Your Dragon movie.
We had a party for Juni's ninth birthday Friday evening and everyone came over. It was sad to say goodbye so fast but we left the next day. The ride home was also pretty smooth except to stop once when Penny threw up.Since coming back this week we had another party for Juniper and Violet at a park in Bountiful. Juni made brownies for her party. She got some cool gifts this year: a gymnastics book, a dress, a bonnet (like Laura Ingles), a cook book, a 3D pen and a Tamagotchi. We watched the Minecraft movie for Juni's birthday at home. It inspired to the kids to play Minecraft again all day. We picked our cherries on my day off and Sarah made jelly. We went on a little hike with the kids at Mueller park on Saturday. We didn't run into any rattlesnakes this time. Now we are back into the Summer routine.
